Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for new recruits varies based on grade levels, starting at :
GL-5 / GL-7 $49,739 - $89,518 per year
Local duty assignments can affect pay rates, with certain areas offering higher locality pay. Experienced BPAs may qualify for additional pay of up to 25% under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position allows for grade advancement through GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12 levels, with promotions occurring after successful completion of 52 weeks in each grade.

Citizenship : Must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
Residency : Must have resided in the U.S. for three of the previous five years.
Age Restriction : Applicants must be referred before their 40th birthday unless exempt due to prior applicable service.
Military Preference : Candidates eligible for Veterans' Preference do not face age limits.
Training : After hiring, new agents will undergo intensive training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy for approximately six months, covering essential law enforcement skills, legal knowledge, physical training, and language proficiency development.
