Unit Description – Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP) Unit
Type of Care :
Comprehensive obstetric care for mothers and newborns throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum.Provides both low- and high-risk maternity care with a focus on family-centered and Baby-Friendly practices.Patient Population :
Adults and neonates (mothers and newborns).Cares for patients with complications such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, and multiple gestations.Unit Capacity :
10 rooms / 10 bedsAverage daily census : 12Staffing Ratios :
Days : 1 : 3Nights : 1 : 3Weekends : 1 : 3Nursing Responsibilities :
Conduct and interpret non-stress tests (NST) and fetal heart monitoring (EFM, IUPC, internal / external).Assist with vaginal deliveries, C-sections (circulate / scrub), amnioinfusion, and high-risk deliveries.Manage postpartum recovery, fundal checks, lochia assessment, and incision / wound care.Support breastfeeding and educate parents on newborn care and discharge teaching.Administer medications including magnesium sulfate, oxytocin (Pitocin), prostaglandins, and antihypertensives.Provide neonatal care : APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, resuscitation, phototherapy, and metabolic screening.Common Procedures :

Minimum 2 years recent L&D and postpartum experienceStrong precepting skills preferredProficient in fetal monitoring, triage, and management of obstetric emergenciesExperience with VBAC, pre-eclampsia, and postpartum hemorrhage careScheduling & Orientation :
12-hour shifts (4x12 schedule allowed, no block)Float and weekend coverage required (every other weekend)Orientation : 36 hoursScrubs : ProvidedTraveler Requirements :
