Transportation Engineer Electrical
Job Description and Duties
Under the general supervision of a Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer, the incumbent will perform the transportation field and office electrical, electronic and related maintenance engineering work relating to Transportation Management Systems (TMS) elements, Traffic Signals, sign and lighting systems, communication systems, and other electrical systems. Incumbent will prepare and review reports, plans, and specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for the installation, repair and maintenance of aforementioned electrical systems. Incumbent will coordinate with the Electrical Maintenance, Traffic Operations and Construction for operational status of all field elements reporting to and from the Transportation Management Center (TMC) and other systems. Incumbent will act as maintenance engineering support in all aspects of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) field elements.

If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Electrical in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER (ELECTRICAL) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and / or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate :
Incumbent must have advance and broad knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices. Must have ability to assist in the preparation and review of reports, plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E), basic departmental procedures as related to design, construction, and maintenance of TMS elements. Must have knowledge of computers, networks, operating systems and applications, such as MS Word, Excel, desktop database, and the ability to learn new applications. Incumbent is expected to have some knowledge of departmental operations and their interrelationship to the project development process. Must have knowledge of construction methods for the installation of Traffic Signals, TMS elements, sign and lighting systems, communication systems, and other electrical systems. Incumbent must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, prepare correspondence and reports, and communicate effectively with other Department functional units, as well as, local agencies, contractors, and consultants. Incumbent must be able to work independently to analyze situations accurately and take effective action. Incumbent must be open to change and new information; adapting their work methods in response to changing conditions or unexpected issues, and adjust quickly to new situations warranting attention and resolution.
Must have the ability to develop innovative solutions to recurring maintenance problems. Ability to work independently, learn quickly, analyze situations, and communicate tactfully and effectively with a variety of people with different backgrounds, experiences and attitudes.
