Primary Purpose : To assist in the implementation of students IEPs.
Qualifications :
Education / Certification :
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- CPR / First Aide Certified.
Special Knowledge Skills :
Temperament to work with students having disabilitiesAbility to maintain effective working relationships with teacher(s), students and administrators.Experience :
Some experience in working with young children.Major Responsibilities and Duties :
Exercise initiative in developing creative activities to supplement and reinforce learningAssist the children in transferring to and from different locations, as neededAssist the children in getting to the lunchroom and when necessary help them in getting lunch trays and feeding themselves.Be punctualMeet the school buses and assist the children in getting on and off the buses.Assist students in self-help needs such as : toileting, diapering, feeding and positioningAssist the children with coats and other articles of clothing which cannot be handled by children with certain disabilitiesWork with individual pupils who need help in group activitiesSupervise small group learning activitiesEncourage the use of oral language by the pupilsMaintain CPR / First Aid CertificationChange bulletin boards and assist the teacher in room decorations.Assist the teacher in material and room maintenanceReproduce material as directed by the teacherBecome efficient in the operation of technology in the roomSupervise game activitiesPraise frequently and exhibit a cheerful attitude toward the studentsFulfill other duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the well-being of studentsAssist in lifting and positioning of studentsAssist in duty as assigned by the principalMaintain confidentiality of students' testing, diagnosis, status and personal problemsAccept the teacher as the authority in the classroomBe subject to bus monitor assignmentAsk for clarification of policies as necessaryBe subject to transfer or reassignment as necessaryRefer parental concerns or staff concerns to teacher, principal or special education supervisionBe subject to split teacher assignment as necessaryAttend and meet required district hours of staff developmentAssume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Campus PrincipalWorking Conditions :

Maintain emotional control under stress; must be able to lift up to 120 lbs. occasionally with assistance.
