Maintenance Technician I

Reports To : Maintenance Supervisor / Maintenance Manager

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for maintaining and repairing production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on a variety of manufacturing equipment, including automatic assembly systems, robotic cells, MIG and resistance welding units, metal stamping presses, and laser cutting machinery. The technician may be assigned to various maintenance department functions as business needs require.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose machine malfunctions using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust PLC programs, Field Bus applications, and HMI interfaces using a laptop computer.
  • Repair or replace defective parts and components to restore equipment functionality.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Document all work performed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS / IQMS) and complete assigned work orders accurately and on time.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics, and repair manuals.
  • Inspect motors, drives, belts, bearings, gears, and other moving components; check fluid levels and replace filters as needed.
  • Clean, lubricate, and calibrate machinery components to maintain peak performance.
  • Recover and reteach robots as required to support automated production systems.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on equipment reliability, safety, and process efficiency.
  • Support and comply with all company safety and operational policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related technical field; or
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment in lieu of a degree.
  • Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of AC / DC electrical systems and application of Ohm’s Law.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Skilled in the use of diagnostic tools and instruments (DMM, calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Familiarity with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage time effectively.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Physical Requirements & Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to :

  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, and crouch regularly.
  • Use hands and arms to handle tools, parts, and equipment.
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 70 pounds (with assistance if needed).
  • Work in various environmental conditions including noise, temperature variations, and exposure to manufacturing materials.
  • Maintain focus and visual acuity for close and distance work, including color and depth perception.
