The City of Wheaton is hiring a full-time Electrical Services Manager our Public Works Department. This position is responsible for the performance and supervision of maintenance and repair activities related to the City’s traffic signals, streetlights, and various electrical systems for municipal utilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Plan, coordinate, train, prioritize and assign the work to electricians for installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and streetlights and traffic signals according to work priority.
- Investigate problems or equipment malfunctions and take corrective action.
- Review electrical plans and specifications for proposed streetlights and traffic signals.
- Monitor the constructions of new and existing street light systems and traffic signals.
- Inspect completed work to assure conformance to blueprints, specifications and standards.
- Maintain and update atlas of streetlights and log of completed repairs using GIS and work order software.
- Assist with the maintenance of various City electrical systems, including sewer and water distribution pump control systems.
- Detect and correct breakdowns in electrical equipment and perform field troubleshooting on electrical motors of up to 200 horsepower capacity.
Qualifications :
Education and Experience
Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Electrical Technology or related fieldFive to seven (5-7) years experience in electrical system installation and maintenance with three years of progressively responsible supervisory experienceEquivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.Licenses and Certification
Valid Illinois Driver's License.Valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class B required, or ability to attain one in 6 months.Current Electrical Contractor License issued by an Illinois municipality or equivalent credential required.Knowledge and Skills
Thorough knowledge of methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in electrical trade including various test instruments.Thorough knowledge of the most recent edition of the National Electric Code and Handbook.Industrial and / or Commercial electrical experience required.Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions, to include working with 480-volt, 3-phase power systems.Construction methods, including experience with JULIE utility locating requirements.Thorough knowledge of the computer operations and programming for traffic signals.Experience with and understanding of sewer and water pump control systems desired.Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office Products, record keeping, database management, and GIS.To exercise professional independent judgment in planning work, formulating recommendations, and making decisions.Strong interpersonal communication skills for interaction with employees, contractors, agencies and other governmental units, and the public.
