Overview

Under general administrative direction, manages, and directs the activities of professional and technical engineering, architecture and / or landscape architecture personnel performing highly technical and administrative functions in connection with the design, construction, operation and maintenance of projects and systems.

Responsibilities

• Directing, supervising, and coordinating the design of complex engineering, architecture, or landscape architecture projects.
• Conducting interviews, selecting, training, monitoring, and evaluating departmental staff and consultants.
• Planning, organizing, and directing the administration and management of contracts.
• Overseeing and reviewing the preparation of complex construction contracts and documents.
• Establishing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and administrative directives.
• Managing projects and coordinating activities between units and other groups.
• Consulting with technical staff, conducting meetings, and representing the City.
• Writing, reviewing, and approving documents.
• Supervising the review of shop drawings by contractors and field inspection staff.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions : Some positions may require lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; working in high places and confined spaces; exposure to various weather conditions and outdoors; bending, sitting, and walking for extended periods of time and over uneven surfaces. May require weekend / holiday / overtime schedules.
