Responsibilities

The Senior Accounting Specialist oversees the reconciliation, monitoring, and reporting of budgets for the Department of Biological Science, supervises fiscal / accounting staff, and assists the department manager in establishing and enforcing policies and ensuring sound fiscal management and compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities include :

• Supervising accounting staff including hiring, evaluation, and training.
• Preparing the department's monthly financial reports and reconciliations of all E&G, Carryforward, SRAD, FSU Foundation, FSU Research Foundation, Tech Fee, Material and Supply Fee, and Auxiliary budgets, including reconciling revenue transactions.
• Compiling and analyzing financial data and preparing detailed financial reports to assist the department administration with making financial and personnel decisions.
• Assisting department management with budget planning and forecasting.
• Preparing annual reports as well as special reports as requested.
• Monitoring and reporting on all departmental OPS expenditures including Graduate Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and other OPS employee budgets. Including reconciling active payroll appointments with departmental database, as well as reconciling applicable encumbrances, HR Actives reports and Cost Center reports for review and approval by department Chair or Assistant Director as appropriate.
• Working with all departmental units (Advising, HR, Grants, Travel / Procurement) to resolve quality control issues.
• Overseeing all purchasing transactions and providing day-to-day guidance and coordination of activities to ensure delivery of procurement services to the department.
• Serving as Contract Manager for the Department of Biological Science. Monitoring and tracking the status of contracts and following up ensuring timely completion.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of accounting related experience; or a high school diploma / equivalent and eight years of the same experience. (Note : post high-school education and / or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.)

Anticipated Salary Range

Minimum starting salary for the position is in the mid $50,000's. Anticipated starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
