Job Description
Job Description
CNC Plasma Cutting Technician (Torchmate)
Reports To : Production Manager
Department : Production
A day in this role
You clock in, review the day’s cut lists, and pull up the CAD files you’ll use to nest parts for maximum yield. You stage plate and sheet, rig the material with an overhead crane or forklift, and set up the Torchmate CNC plasma table. You dial in settings for stainless, mild steel, or aluminum, considering thickness and edge quality. As the arc starts, you monitor kerf, speed, and consumables, pausing for in-process checks with calipers and a tape measure. Parts are deburred, tagged, and moved to the next operation—maybe the Cincinnati press brake for forming, a Hurco CNC for machining ops, or prep for paint or insulation finishing. You finish the shift with preventive maintenance, housekeeping, and a quick huddle with fabrication teammates to plan tomorrow’s builds.

What you’ll deliver
- Operate and maintain a CNC plasma cutting table (Torchmate) to cut sheet and plate to specification.
- Load / unload material safely; stage jobs to meet schedule commitments.
- Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and cut lists; optimize nests and part orientation.
- Set machine parameters based on material type and thickness to achieve target tolerances.
- Monitor cut quality and consistency; inspect parts using tape measures, calipers, and gauges.
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with fabrication, welding, and production teams to hit deadlines and quality targets.
- Maintain shop safety, housekeeping, and adherence to procedures.
- Assist with related fabrication tasks and cross-train across operations.
- Contribute in areas such as paint finishing and insulation finishing as workload requires.
- Set up and operate a Cincinnati press brake for bending and forming; support Hurco CNC operations.
- Cross-train in seam welding, burn table operations, and plate rolling.
