Description :

The Scrub Technician participates as a team member in the planning and implementation of nursing care for each patient.

They demonstrate an ability to work with medical, nursing, and ancillary services to provide safe patient care.

The Scrub Tech demonstrates professional demeanor, courteous manner, and handles confidential information with discretion for the patient and their family.

They demonstrate the ability to clean instruments and ensure sterility is achieved by utilizing the appropriate procedures.

They recognize successful completion of steam autoclave and automated high-level disinfectant units.

The Scrub Tech selects equipment and supplies in an organized manner based on surgical procedure.

They demonstrate competence in preparing instrument sets according to preference lists, patient history, and age.

They utilize supplies in a cost-effective manner.

The Scrub Tech demonstrates the ability to handle and operate sophisticated equipment.

They detect and readily adapt to changes in surgical procedures.

They create and maintain a sterile field.

The Scrub Tech maintains aseptic technique at all times in accordance with standards.

They demonstrate the ability to open and handle sterile supplies, perform proper surgical hand scrubbing, and don sterile gown and gloves.

They set up sterile fields, receive sterile supplies from the circulator, and assist in proper draping of the patient.

They initiate corrective measures when a breach in sterile technique occurs.

The Scrub Tech demonstrates ability to work with medical and nursing staff in providing safe patient care.

They use care with sharps to prevent injury or contamination.

They follow policies and procedures for counts and maintain an adequate count of all countable items on the sterile field.

They initiate proper protocol when counts are incorrect.

The Scrub Tech accurately draws up medication with proper labeling of all solutions and syringes.

They serve as preceptors and mentors to new employees.

They assess the surgical environment for safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

The Scrub Tech supports a state of continual service readiness.

They ensure a clean, safe, and orderly work and care environment.
