License : Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and the advanced registry in Computed Tomography (CT) or registry-eligible

Description :

Under general supervision, specializes in the performance of computerized tomographic radiological procedures on patients.

May perform general diagnostic radiology examinations.

Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares them for the examination.

Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examination.

Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary.

Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies.

Analyzes anatomical structures of patients, sets up equipment, and performs the CT scan.

Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied.

Administers intravenous contrast media, including utilization of power injectors.

Monitors patients for possible reactions as appropriate to the study and provides immediate care if a reaction occurs.

May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for the procedures performed.

Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored.

Assists Radiologist in performing complex sterile diagnostic procedures such as biopsies.

Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating principles of radiation protection, which may involve shielding of patients and selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose.

Resolves any image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

Completes all study indexing, including study begin, study end, and completion of the study in the Radiology Information System (RIS).

Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with Radiologist before performing studies.

Demonstrates Team member standards of excellence, including open communication, positive attitude, and respect for diversity.

Performs all documentation in the medical record as necessary to support all clinical and billing functions.

May work in a fixed unit or in an ambulatory mobile unit.

May be exposed to radiation if proper precautions are not utilized.

May be exposed to high-voltage equipment.

May occasionally lift and / or move equipment and / or patients exceeding 10 lbs.
