Description :

The position is for a Registered Nurse in a Neuro Med-Surg Acute setting.

The unit has 54 beds, including 2 semi-private rooms.

Patient to nurse ratios are 1 : 4-5 during the day shift and 1 : 5-6 during the night shift.

Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience conditions.

Nurses are required to titrate drips, particularly Heparin based on PTT, and must have experience with Heparin drips.

Charge nurses are available 24 / 7 and do not take an assignment unless staffing is short.

There is a house supervisor present 24 / 7 as well.

Nurse aids or patient care technicians are available with ratios of 1 : 9-10 during the day, 1 : 9-10 in the evening, and 1 : 10-12 at night.

RNs are expected to troubleshoot high flow oxygen for stable patients, though COVID cases are rare.

Telemetry is house-wide, and nurses do not need to read their own strips, as Phillips monitors are used.

Shifts consist of 12-hour rotations with requests accommodated when possible.

There is a requirement for every other weekend and every other holiday.

Floating is required in rotation with the rest of the staff, ensuring competency is maintained.

The dress code allows for no specific scrub color requirement, and tattoos must be covered while on duty.

The orientation process includes two days of training for unit-specific needs with a preceptor.
