Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med / Surg RN with active IL licensure and BLS certification for a night shift role in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

Position is based in an acute care Med / Surg unit with 29 beds and a typical census of 22-26 patients

Night shifts consist of 12-hour shifts (1900-0700), working 3 shifts per week with every other weekend and holiday rotation

Patient population includes GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, elderly who fall, DVT, and pulmonary embolisms

Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5 : 1 during days and 5-6 : 1 during nights

Requires heparin drip titration, with support from 24 / 7 charge RN and crisis RN coverage

Unit uses Epic EMR; experience with Epic is preferred

Remote telemetry is used for patients needing cardiac monitoring, primarily with Phillips equipment

Travelers are required to float to similar Med / Surg units as needed; no floating to ICUs or oncology

Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit

Any color scrubs may be worn; staff provide their own

RNs work alongside 24 / 7 patient care techs and have access to a unit clerk for administrative support

No call or standby requirements for this position

Must pass a drug screen for all panels as part of onboarding

COVID-19 vaccination is not required

Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a local rate

Holiday coverage is rotated among staff

Requirements

Active IL RN license required at time of consideration

Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg RN experience

Current BLS certification

Experience titrating heparin drips

Ability to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources as needed
