Description : This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

Hours of Work : 9 : 00 AM to 5 : 30 PM or as required (7.5 HR / DAY)

Pay Point : 417

Salary Range : $74,690 to $101,687

Role Summary

The Senior Safety Specialist, under the direction of the Safety Manager, will oversee the safety operations of construction activities in accordance with contract requirements and best management safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine site assessments to identify hazardous work practices and conditions.
  • Liaise with construction compliance managers and contractors in developing corrective action strategies to eliminate hazardous conditions and prevent workplace incidents.
  • Participate in safety meetings, job briefings, design reviews, and progress meetings, and review contractor-submitted health and safety plans, job hazard analyses, means and methods.
  • Pre-task intends to ensure compliance with MTA C&D's Safety Program and regulatory conformity.
  • Participate in and document accident and incident investigations.
  • Prepare weekly performance reports utilizing web-based applications and spreadsheets.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degrees in Engineering / Architecture / Construction / Safety Engineering / Safety Management / Construction Safety.
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements.
  • Experience with construction safety contractor management programs or providing oversight for 3rd party services / contractors.
  • Possess a valid OSHA 30-hour card in the Construction Industry under five years old.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.) and strong business administrative skills (presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.).
  • Driver's License (required for some Business Units).

    Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the Commission).
