Position Overview
The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating visual content with a heavy focus on print and physical brand designs that bring the athletics identity to life across facilities, events, and fan experiences. This role focuses on extending the visual brand into tangible environments – including facility graphics, signage, environmental branding, promotional materials, and printed collateral – while also supporting other creative requests as needed.
Reporting to the Director of Design, the Graphic Designer collaborates with the creative, marketing, and operations teams to ensure brand consistency and excellence across all touchpoints. This role maintains a strong understanding of layout and print production, and a passion for storytelling through design.
Job Description
This position serves as a graphic designer for the department’s design team committed to advancing the Department of Athletics and Business Advancement through its strategic plan. Designs and produces high-quality print and environmental graphics, including facility branding, event signage, posters, brochures, game programs, and other promotional materials.
Responsible for meeting with internal partners to conceptualize ideas and establish creative solutions fulfilling the goals and objectives. Provides strategic visual solutions for print and digital communication utilized across the department.
Prepare print-ready artwork, ensuring proper file setup, color management, and vendor specifications. Collaborates with vendors, printers, and internal partners to ensure accuracy and quality in final production. Ongoing observation of the athletics creative landscape identifying trends and benchmarks to ensure Ohio State is at the forefront. Manages multiple design projects and timelines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Stays informed on print technologies, digital design trends, and emerging creative tools to integrate new techniques and improve workflow. This position works in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged. Reports to Director of Design. Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Competencies
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field. 3–5 years of professional design experience, preferably in sports, entertainment, or higher education. Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Strong understanding of layout, typography, color theory, and print production processes. Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
