Department : Center for Student Leadership & Involvement Salary : $12.00 per hour
DESCRIPTION
Student Leadership and Involvement (SLI) is seeking a dependable, engaged student to support daily operations in the Student Lounge and throughout the department. This role provides a unique opportunity to develop leadership, communication, and administrative skills in a dynamic, student-centered environment.
DUTIES
- Greets and assists students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a welcoming and professional manner
- Monitors the Student Lounge to ensure a clean, safe, and inclusive space by enforcing lounge policies and performing light cleaning duties as needed
- Supports Locker Rental Program and equipment check-outs
- Answers department phone lines, takes accurate messages, and provides general information
- Performs clerical tasks, including copying, scanning, filing, distributing mail, and data entry
- Assists with the preparation and execution of SLI-sponsored events, workshops, and student organization initiatives
- Runs errands to various departments and locations on campus
- Assists with social media content creation or student engagement efforts as needed
- Opens and closes the lounge area, ensuring all emergency and safety protocols are followed
- Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Available to work up to 20 hours a week, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 : 00 AM-8 : 00 PMStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally with students, faculty, and staffProficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); comfort with digital tools and platforms is a plusReliable, punctual, and organized with strong attention to detailComfortable learning new tasks and taking initiativePositive Attitude and Professional ExperienceMust be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and perform light physical tasks, including event setupPerforms opening and closing procedures and follows all UHD emergency proceduresQUALIFICATIONS
Must be a current UHD studentMust have received a work-study award from the Office of Scholarships and Financial AidMust have a 2.5 GPA or higherAll positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
