Our client, a US Fortune 250 company and a global medical technology corporation serving customers in Clinical Labs, Health care research & Pharmaceutical industry, seeks an accomplished R&D Engineer I

Job Title : R&D Engineer I

Location : Vernon Hills IL 60061

Duration : 12-month contract

Pay Rate : $32 / hr - $37.50 / hr (depending on experience)

Schedule :

  • Standard weekday schedule (onsite role)
  • No relocation assistance or visa sponsorship available

Must-Have Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 0–2 years of experience in R&D or process development (preferably in a medical device / FDA-regulated environment)
  • Demonstrated hands-on technical aptitude
  • Experience with validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) and writing protocols / reports
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Job Description :

    The R&D Engineer I will assist in developing, optimizing, and validating components and elements of medical devices. This hands-on role involves testing, process development, documentation, validation, and support across R&D, Quality, Operations, and Regulatory Affairs functions.

    Responsibilities :

  • Design medical device components by translating design inputs into engineering specifications and drawings
  • Select appropriate materials, processes, and vendors to meet design needs
  • Build and test prototypes for engineering, pre-clinical, and clinical studies
  • Support process development using Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical methods
  • Assist with new process equipment / tooling development, vendor selection, and negotiation
  • Prepare SOPs, work instructions, technical documents, and reports
  • Support verification and validation protocol and report preparation
  • Conduct laboratory testing, engineering evaluations, and competitor analyses
  • Develop and validate new test methods
  • Train and mentor technicians on design, process, and testing methods
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance
  • Participate in root cause analysis and non-conformance investigations
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Chemical Engineering
  • 0–2 years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience in FDA / QSR or ISO-regulated environments
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience supporting validation activities
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis tools
  • Knowledge of cGMP and GLP standards
  • Six Sigma or Design for Six Sigma training
