The Department of Psychology has 17 tenure-line faculty members and approximately 750 majors. We are a collaborative and collegial community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni who value the processes of critical inquiry and discovery in the laboratory, the classroom, and the community. Position Overview :

The Department of Psychology at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Cognitive Psychology to join our community starting in August 2026.

We seek a colleague with the potential or demonstrated ability to effectively teach and conduct research with undergraduate students in the area of Applied Cognitive Psychology. We have a preference for candidates with expertise in Computational Cognitive Science or Human Factors Psychology and whose research and teaching will connect and integrate with other disciplines. The standard teaching load is 3 courses per semester. All new tenure-track faculty members receive one course release per year in their first three years to support their scholarship.

The successful candidate will be prepared to teach Cognitive Psychology and research methods or statistics, as well as an advanced undergraduate seminar in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will also be prepared to develop and lead a research lab with undergraduate students that will count as a course in their teaching load. Candidates should be committed to inclusive excellence in higher education, demonstrated through,  for example , culturally responsive course design and pedagogy, equity-minded student engagement and mentorship, and cultivating intercultural competencies needed for meaningful citizenship.

TCNJ’s faculty reappointment and promotion standards for teaching and service are articulated in the College’s Reappointment and Promotions Document and the standards for scholarship are available in the Psychology Department’s Disciplinary Standards Document . Faculty are represented by American Federation of Teachers Local 2364 , which belongs to the Council of New Jersey State College Locals .

Qualifications : Required :

• Have a PhD in Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human Factors Psychology, or a closely related field. ABDs will be considered only if all requirements for their degree will be completed prior to the start date.
• Have the potential or demonstrated ability to effectively teach Psychology courses at the undergraduate level in Cognitive Psychology, research methods, and / or statistics.
• Have a related record of peer-reviewed publications and a research agenda that is clearly defined, shows promise, and can involve undergraduate student researchers.
• Demonstrate cultural competency and ability to foster inclusive learning environments and mutual respect for students and colleagues.
