Position Summary :
The Program Instructor for the Upward Bound English Language Learners
(UBELLs) requires an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of the
Center for Pre-College Programs. Employment and / or continued employment is
subject to successfully passing State Mandated Criminal Background Check. The program operates year-round during the Academic
Year (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions Saturday Sessions are 20 Saturdays
during the Academic Year from 8 : 30 am through 2 : 00 pm. Summer Session is six
(6) weeks, Monday through Friday, from 8 : 30 am until 4 : 00 pm.
Essential Functions :
instruction in relevant grade level academic classes in English as a
Second Language (ESL / ELLs) to prepare students for success in high school and college.
ELLs / ESL students to integrate reading and writing skills.
students' communicative, study and time management skills and assists in
the development of test taking strategies.
ELLs / ESL students to reduce fear of subjects and helps develop student
problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
ELLs / ESL students to develop language arts skills in preparation for the state-mandated
tests, i.e., PSAT, SAT / ACT.
staff development and training sessions.
lesson plans timely.
and implementing the Program Curriculum based on the New Jersey Core
Curriculum Content Standards for the program.
learning environment that will facilitate the desire to learn and help
ELLs / ESL students to gain self-motivation for self-improvement.
evaluates the performance and progress of each student and prepares grade
reports.
the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and
placement tests.
Teacher Assistant and / or Tutor in the execution of all Essential
Functions.
in the planning and delivery of team-teaching and thematic lesson plans
with other teachers in the same subject area and / or grade level.
Additional Functions :
Prerequisite Qualifications :
Certification in the academic discipline and Bilingual Education.
years of teaching experience in the subject area.
Preferred Qualifications :
with ELLs / ESL minority and disadvantaged high school students is
preferred.
Salary Information :
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate / range for this position is $30.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education / training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
