This position reports to the LEU+ Construction Manager and will be located at the Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility (CFFF) in Hopkins, SC 29061, working 100% onsite.
Overview
Westinghouse is the largest nuclear fuel manufacturer in the USA, developing the LEU+ fuel fabrication facility at CFFF to support advanced nuclear fuel production with up to 8% enriched 235U. The role is for a Field Civil / Structural Engineer who will ensure civil / structural construction / installation work complies with approved engineering plans, drawings and specifications, from construction through commissioning and turnover to operations.
Responsibilities
- On-site installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of civil / structural systems for the LEU+ facility at CFFF.
- Assist and support the Construction Superintendent and Project Engineer by overseeing civil / structural construction progress and interpreting drawings.
- Oversee civil / structural construction / installation progress, address issues, and maintain quality standards.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and effective verbal and written communication to guide teams.
- Coordinate civil / structural construction / installation interfaces and inspection activities, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Conduct regular jobsite walk-downs to ensure compliance with engineering requirements for the assigned discipline.
- Identify and resolve field issues, process changes, and other technical issues during construction and installations.
- Participate in design reviews for the assigned discipline and contribute to corrective action, lessons learned, and continual improvement.
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports, issues, and other relevant information for the assigned discipline.
- Maintain detailed records of construction activities, including progress and inspection reports and as-built documentation.
- Enforce safety protocols and address potential hazards to maintain a safe and injury-free workplace.
- Communicate with internal groups, customers, and vendors as necessary to complete work assignments.
- Review and approve subcontractor work plans and work packages for the assigned discipline.
- Participate in regular jobsite project meetings and inspections as directed by the Construction Superintendent and Project Engineer.
Who You Are
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Civil / Structural Engineering or equivalent.A minimum of 7 years of discipline-related engineering experience, preferably including at least 3 years in the nuclear industry.A minimum of 3 years of technical project execution and / or field installation experience, preferably in the nuclear industry.Experience in engineering, procurement and operations environments, preferably in the nuclear industry.Strong understanding of construction methods, procedures, and processes.Knowledge of design principles for structures, piping, and supports; rigging and handling practices and applicable codes in the nuclear industry.Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.Dependable with problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Desire to exceed customer expectations aligned to company goals.OSHA 30-hour certification or other equivalent safety certification is highly desirable.Must be able to hold and maintain a Security Clearance at a US Nuclear facility.Physical Requirements
Requires the ability to occasionally carry or lift up to 50 pounds. Individual must be able to reach, climb, kneel, squat, grasp, bend, sit, and stand for a minimum of 4 hours per day. Must be able to access all points of a construction site in various environments. Must be able to pass a Westinghouse physical exam, including a spirometer for respirator use.
