The Anesthesia Technician provides personal care and professional excellence by assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Anesthesia cost center under the supervision of the Chief of Anesthesiology and the Surgical Services Supervisor. He/she ensures that anesthesia equipment and supplies are maintained, available, and prepared for use in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based clinical and regulatory guidelines.
Major tasks, duties, and responsibilities:
- Performs decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and distribution of anesthesia supply & equipment in accordance with evidence-based clinical and regulatory guidelines as well as policies & procedures.
- Inspects and assembles anesthesia instruments and equipment in compliance with assembly instructions and policies & procedures.
- Monitors, inventories, and maintains anesthesia supplies in both the Anesthesia Workroom and at points-of-use throughout the Surgery and OB departments.
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of anesthesia equipment according to manufacturer's recommendation and unit policy.
- Assists with turnover of anesthesia equipment and supplies between surgical procedures, ensuring that cleaning and disinfection of high-touch equipment is performed to unit standards.
- Assists in the training of new personnel.
- Participates in evaluation of new products, procedures, equipment, and research projects.
- Collects data and runs reports as directed by unit & department leadership.
- Inventories and assists with ordering clerical supplies in support of patient care and administrative operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an Anesthesia Tech program preferred.
- Anesthesia Technician certification within 36 months of date of hire.
- Experience as an Anesthesia Technician highly preferred; experience in surgery or a procedural setting preferred.
- Basic computer use competency (keyboarding; order/data entry and retrieval; word processing) required.
- Demonstration of effective problem solving, decision-making, interpersonal, and team work skills.
- Demonstration of effective verbal and written communication.
- Demonstration of positive customer service.
- Demonstration of ability to manage time effectively and adapt to changes in workload.
