Mission Support Specialist Generalist

Summary Organizational Location : This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Air and Marine Operations in San Diego, CA. Responsibilities In this Mission Support Specialist Generalist position, you will carry out a wide variety of mission support, administrative management, and program planning activities related to the missions and functions of Mission Readiness Operations. This position starts at a salary of $69,809.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $90,749.00 (GS-09), Step 10. Typical duties include :

  • Managing property and security operations, including conducting inventories, overseeing fleet management (ordering, receiving, inventorying, transferring, and disposing of vehicles), and addressing facility issues.
  • Collaborating with supervisors to resolve property and security concerns, ensuring compliance with CBP and AMO policies, and preparing reports on facility and property management activities.
  • Supporting a wide range of mission support programs, including Worker's Compensation, Purchase Card, Facilities, Property, Fleet, and other administrative functions within AMO.
  • Purchasing office supplies, equipment, and services using a government purchase card, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.
  • Providing guidance to employees on pay, benefits, leave, and personnel-related actions, such as promotions, reassignments, and transfers.
  • Overseeing the Worker's Compensation program, serving as an Injury Compensation Coordinator and ensuring compliance with Department of Labor regulations.

Qualifications Experience : You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as : Supporting administrative processes, such as benefits, pay, leave, travel, property, fleet, facilities, and purchasing. Preparing personnel action requests, updating personnel spreadsheets, and conducting new employee orientation. Managing inventory records, fleet reports, and purchase card transactions. Evaluating administrative functions and recommending changes to improve mission support services. OR Education Substitution : A Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must :

  • Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10 / 30 / 2025.
