Library and Archives Coordinator
Buffalo History Museum | $45,000–$50,000 annual salary
At the Buffalo History Museum, every artifact, photograph, and document share a story-about the people, events, and ideas that shaped our region. We're seeking a Library and Archives Coordinator to join our collections team, caring for rare and unique materials, supporting research, and helping guide the ongoing centralization of our collections. In this role, you'll help make Buffalo's history accessible, meaningful, and connected to the community.
What You'll Do
- Care for and help grow collections that reflect Buffalo, Erie County, and Western New York history, including rare books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, newspapers, oral histories, and more.
- Support reference and research services for staff, scholars, students, and community members.
- Assist with acquisitions and work with donors, the Collections Committee, and the Director of Collections to ensure thoughtful stewardship.
- Maintain and enhance digital cataloging and archival platforms, contributing to projects that improve public access to collections.
- Help plan, organize, and implement collections centralization, ensuring materials are preserved, accessible, and secure during transitions.
- Collaborate across departments to share history through programs, social media, and exhibits.
Who You Are
A thoughtful and organized professional with a Bachelor's in History, Museum Studies, Library Science, or a related field.Experienced in libraries, archives, or special collections, with skills in research, cataloging, preservation, and reference work.Familiar with archival practices, metadata standards, and integrated library systems (ILS).A clear communicator, collaborative teammate, and adaptable problem-solver.Commitment to collecting and stewardship practices that embody the Museum's values and reflect the breadth and diversity of our community.Comfortable using Microsoft Office 365 and open to learning new digital tools.Preferred but Not Required
MLIS / MLS or archival studies concentration.Knowledge of Buffalo and Western New York history.Experience assisting with grants or project management.Why Join Us
