Solid Waste Management Supervisor
The purpose of this position is to ensure solid waste is managed in such a way as to protect both public health and the environment.
This position supervises and directs solid waste employees, activities, and programs involved in the enforcement of the EPA and ADEQ regulations on solid waste collection for contained and uncontained refuse. The position supervises employees, operates bulldozers, constructs roads, participates in equipment maintenance and performs other related duties. This position ensures all safety policies and procedures are followed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Regularly assigns work to other employees and supervises related activities.
Provides recommendations on scheduling work hours of employees.
This position has no responsibility over any types of budget.
Provides project research on community service projects.
This position trains colleagues and explains County procedures or processes.
This position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails and reports.
Interacts regularly with internal coworkers and other departmental personnel over the telephone, by email, and / or in person. Incidental contact with the public may occur as part of the work location.

Minimum Education / Directly Related Experience Required
High School Diploma or GED.
Five (5) years experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License; incumbents must comply with Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements. Must possess and maintain an Arizona Class B CDL (Heavy Equipment Operator License). Incumbents in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing.

Supervisor / leadership knowledge; hazardous materials (handling and disposal); excavation, grading and compaction; Federal, State, Local laws, regulations, Statutes; building and construction; solid waste disposal procedures and processes; hazardous waste policies and procedures; heavy equipment maintenance and safety requirements and construction processes. Incumbents must be well versed in ground and slope grades and deeply knowledgeable in operating scrapers, buckets, bulldozers, and other landfill equipment.

Incumbents in this position occasionally spends time in office environment; routinely spends time in outdoor areas; regularly spends time in and around outside construction areas.
Incumbents in this position are subject to safety risk exposure; may become exposed to telephone verbal abuse by customers or citizens, may encounter emotional customers. Subject to physical danger, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, bloodborne pathogens, fire hazards, explosives, respiratory hazards, extreme temperature, noise and vibration, and wetness and humidity.
Incumbents in this position are required to constantly follow written safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department. This position constantly requires safety footwear; hearing protection devices; eye protection devices and regularly requires hard hat.
Potential errors can have legal ramifications, loss of funding, loss of organization's credibility.
