Essential Job Summary :

We are seeking a skilled Safety and Compliance Leader with experience in the waste and recycling or transportation / truck driving industries. This key role involves implementing and overseeing health and safety programs across solid waste collection, transfer, recycling, and disposal operations. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety and transportation regulations, reporting to the Market Area Safety Director.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Program Compliance

Develop and enforce safety policies in alignment with OSHA, DOT, and local regulations.

  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure adherence to safety practices and regulatory standards.
  • Guide managers and supervisors to understand potential hazards and compliance needs.
  • Training & Education

    • Conduct safety meetings and training sessions.

  • Lead safety training programs for drivers, equipment operators, and facility staff.
  • Organize emergency preparedness drills and simulations.
  • Incident Management

    • Investigate accidents, near-misses, and safety violations.

  • Prepare comprehensive reports, identify root causes, and recommend corrective measures.
  • Lead Incident Review Team meetings as appropriate.
  • Assist in managing care for injuries.
  • Risk Mitigation

    • Identify hazards and proactively implement risk reduction measures.

  • Oversee the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper usage.
  • Collaborate with operations for safe routing, loading, and disposal practices.
  • Regulatory Reporting & Documentation

    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, and incidents.

  • Monitor training records to ensure compliance with pre-determined procedures.
  • Leadership & Culture

    • Commit to effective communication and continuous improvement of safety policies.

  • Promote a safety-first culture at all organizational levels.
  • Provide coaching to supervisors and frontline employees.
  • Engage in safety committees and cross-functional teams.

    • Additional Information :

  • 3-5 years of experience in sanitation / solid waste, transportation, or industrial operations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and health and safety regulations.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills to ensure safe operations.
  • Availability for emergencies outside of business hours.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transport for market site travel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
