Job Purpose :

Assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals' rights and benefits.

Essential Functions :

Provide supervision, training, and assistance in accomplishing activities of daily living, which includes, but is not limited to, self-care skills, social skills, recreation skills, community skills, and domestic skills for a 14 year old female.

Empowering People's Independence is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work with a vibrant, spunky young girl in the Self-Direction program. The primary location would be in the East Syracuse / Fremont area, but the individual enjoys traveling locally and exploring new places within their community. This individual is seeking Community Habilitation staff to help her work to achieve personal goals. The individual and her family are looking for a dedicated staff member that will become a long-term member of the individual's care team.

We are looking for individuals that are dependable, patient, and enthusiastic. Prior experience working with individuals that have cognitive delays, developmental disabilities and / or physical disabilities is strongly preferred- but the team is also willing to train the right applicant.

Reliable vehicle and a New York State driver's license are required. Background check, fingerprinting and DMV record check will be conducted prior to hire by the agency. There is no cost to the applicant for any of these required checks. Any / all training time for this position is paid.

Schedule :

• 4 hours bi-weekly or 8 hours per week, schedule to be discussed with family, but likely after school or weekends

Pay Rate : $19- $21 / hour

While performing the duties of this position, the employee travels by automobile and will be exposed to changing weather conditions.

OSHA Category 1 :

This position requires tasks that involve exposure to blood or body fluids that requires specific training for the employees' safety.
