Massage and Meditation Practitioner

As part of Employee Health, Safety and Wellbeing, this position is responsible for supporting the Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) Serenity Station program for employees by providing chair massage therapy, Reiki (energy work) services and / or mindfulness / meditation practice. The goal of the Serenity Station program is to create a healing environment that facilitates stress reduction, while also educating employees on additional YNHHS resources that support ongoing emotional and physical wellbeing. The position requires a deep understanding of the body-mind connection and a passion for total-person wellness.

Responsibilities

• 1. Provide appropriate, safe and effective chair massage services to facilitate physical relaxation and stress reduction.
• 1.1 Conduct appropriate health evaluation on participants prior to session; Determine if there are any contraindications for massage therapy and / or customize treatment plans based on client health histories, conditions, and preferences.
• 2. Conduct Reiki healing sessions to promote energy balance, decrease stress and increase resiliency.
• 2.1 Stays up-to-date with current techniques and trends energy healing, CAM, and holistic wellness.
• 3. Lead employees through mindfulness exercises and guided meditation sessions tailored to the needs of the individual.
• 3.1 Teach techniques such as mindfulness meditation, body scans, breathing exercises, and relaxation methods to facilitate a mind-body connection.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High school diploma with completion of a program of study from an accredited school of Massage Therapy.

Must be licensed and certified in Massage Therapy in the state of Connecticut

Certified Reiki Practitioner (Level 2 or Master) from an accredited institution.

Additional Certificate in Energy Medicine preferred.

Formal training or certification in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), guided meditation, or related mindfulness techniques.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and / or QPR Suicide Prevention Training preferred; must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge of other complementary wellness modalities including but not limited to yoga, acupressure, aromatherapy, or sound healing preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist.

Minimum of two years of experience providing Reiki services, preferably in an institutional / healthcare setting.

Minimum 1 year of experience providing mindfulness / guided meditation practice; preferred experience in a healthcare or corporate setting.

LICENSURE

CT Licensed Massage Therapist; Certified Reiki Practitioner (Level 2 or Master) from an accredited institution; Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Certification preferred.

Valid Driver's License

Strong communication skills and able to communicate effectively with clients about their needs and provide a supportive, healing environment.

Must maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards of practice; Must adhere to YNHHS Code of Conduct

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a group setting.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Ability to perform services for extended periods and work in a physically demanding environment. Flexibility to cover daytime and evening shifts at YNHHS locations across the state of Connecticut as requested.
