Job descriptionWork in the 33-bed Ortho-Neuro unit within an acute hospital setting Provide care for orthopedic surgical and neuro-surgical patients, including elective surgeries and fracture cases, as well as general Med / Surg cases Typical patient ratio is 1 : 6 Uses EPIC as the electronic medical record system and EPIC experience is required 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend scheduled First to float to other Med / Surg units and must work within skillset if floated to Tele Remote telemetry is monitored by a separate team; RNs are not required to interpret strips Orthopedic and neuro-surgical patient care with use of IV fluids and PCA pumps; no titration of drips required Charge nurse is available 24 / 7, with night charge taking a full patient assignment Patient Care Techs provide support for vitals, ADLs, and device care CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen are managed via respiratory therapy Royal blue scrubs required, and jackets must be scrub-style in matching color Travelers are the first to float to other units as needed One day EPIC orientation, followed by one day unit orientation with a preceptor Holiday coverage may be required depending on staffing needs Local candidates are not accepted; must live beyond a 50-mile radius Returning employees must have a 2-year break from any WVU Medicine location before reapplying Travelers may not work at any WVU facility for more than one year total without a 2-year break Active WV or compact RN license required Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required Proven experience caring for orthopedic patients and using PCA pumps Experience with EPIC EMR required Must provide an unexpired copy of a valid driver’s license for consideration High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts
