SUMMARY
The Surgical Physician Assistant (PA-C) provides advanced care in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative settings. Working under the supervision of a licensed surgeon, the PA supports surgical procedures, conducts patient assessments, develops care plans, and ensures continuity of care across the surgical continuum.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams
Order and interpret diagnostic tests as needededucate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, risks, and recovery expectationsobtain informed consent and prepare patients for surgeryIntraoperative Assistanceserve as first or second assist during surgical procedures across multiple specialties
perform surgical functions such as suturing, tissue retraction, hemostasis, and wound closuremaintain sterile field and assist with instrument handling and patient positioningPostoperative ManagementMonitor patient recovery and identify post-surgical complications
manage wound care, drains, and dressingsprescribe medications and order diagnostic imaging as appropriatedocument progress notes and communicate updates to the surgical teamEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant programCurrent CA PA license and NCCPA certificationCurrent BLS certificationCurrent ACLS certificationMinimum 1 year experience of surgical or OR experience preferredSKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS :
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, and perioperative careExcellent clinical judgment, surgical skills, and ability to work under pressure.Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skillStrong ethicsTeam spirit with a positive attitudePatient and calm demeanorWork independentlyWillingness to continue gaining knowledge and clinical experienceMust be able to travel to different location
