Overview
The Business Development Director (M&A) will oversee the sourcing, evaluation, and closing of single-practice and small group acquisitions, aiming to meet or surpass annual growth targets. This role requires managing the comprehensive acquisition lifecycle, from developing pipelines and nurturing relationships to conducting due diligence and achieving successful closures, with a seamless transition to the integrations team. Be prepared for approximately 50% travel within targeted markets.
Responsibilities
- Acquisition Sourcing & Pipeline Development
Build and maintain a consistent pipeline of acquisition opportunities that align with Sage's criteria.
Establish referral relationships with Sage doctors and team members.Collaborate with marketing to drive acquisition lead generation through digital, traditional, paid, and non-paid avenues.Network at dental conferences and events to identify and cultivate acquisition prospects while representing Sage as a brand ambassador.Develop and manage relationships with dental practice brokers, assessing opportunities against Sage's standards.Conduct market surveys in targeted areas to proactively discover high-value opportunities before they hit the market.Refine Sage's value proposition for selling doctors and incorporate it into all acquisition-related materials.Keep a detailed record of the acquisition pipeline, tracking deals in progress and projected timelines.Diligence & Deal ExecutionGather and manage diligence materials for potential acquisitions, ensuring a consistent and timely flow of information.
Cooperate with cross-functional teams (finance, legal, operations, etc.) to verify information and prepare for closing.Organize pre-closing practice visits, site tours, and conference calls with selling doctors.Drive quality targets throughout the diligence and closing phases.Relationship Management & Post-Close SupportAct as the primary relationship owner for prospective and selling doctors from the initial engagement through closing.
Work alongside the integrations team to ensure a seamless handoff and an enjoyable onboarding experience.Conduct follow-up check-ins with newly acquired doctors to ensure satisfaction and leverage their experiences for future referrals or references.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (MBA highly preferred).7+ years of experience in acquisitions, business development, or corporate development, preferably in healthcare or the dental sector.A proven history of sourcing, negotiating, and closing successful deals.Strong financial and analytical abilities with the aptitude to evaluate practice performance.Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills.Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively across various functions.Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment focused on growth.Seniority Level
