The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a talented and motivated individual to serve as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist on the Medical Services Team. Job Summary

Working under the direction of the Medical Director, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist responsibilities include :

• Provide direct diagnostic, preventive and treatment services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays, youth who are at risk or have serious emotional disturbance, and adolescents with substance use disorders and serious mental illness..
• Provide treatment and evaluation to adult populations with serious mental Illness, substance use disorders and developmental disabilities.
• Clinically evaluate, plan, and initiate treatment services as appropriate to patients with complex medical, mental health, and substance use disorders.
• Assess patients' health by performing comprehensive diagnostic examinations and assessments, educating patients and their families about diagnoses and medications, and providing other health information.
• Submit applications for prescription assistance; ensure refills and prescription renewals are correctly processed; maintain resource information, applications, and procedures to identify available prescription funding sources; complete applications and referrals for outside funding resources; and maintain all required documentation.
• Support patients in working toward the outcomes described in their Individualized Service Plans and Behavior Support Plans. Ensure medical appointments are scheduled and met. Work with nursing staff to identify and address patients' needs.
• Provide professional advice and expertise; consult with other clinical services provided to the patient.
• Provide discharge planning for hospitalized patients; evaluates, plans, documents, and initiates treatment services.
• Participate in treatment team meetings with other members of the department, including nursing and licensed mental health professionals. May also work with external entities such schools or the juvenile detention center.
• Adhere to electronic health record (EHR requirements) requirements.
• Member of the on-call rotation for all patient populations which responds to phone calls after hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis to ensure access 24 / 7 coverage for emergencies and / or consultation.
• May supervise nurse practitioners, students, interns, and externs.
• Respond to emergency and crisis situations as needed.
