Traffic Sign Technician
Coordinates and performs advanced skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Serves as a lead worker and trains other technicians. Work includes coordinating and maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to a supervisor.
Essential Duties :
Serves as a lead worker by advising, training, and instructing employees in shop policies and procedures; acting as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor / manager; providing input on team members career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operations coverage.
Coordinates and inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.
Coordinates, performs, and maintains inventory of signs.
Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations / conditions.
Measures and calculates amount of materials needed.
Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties.
Operates a boom and bucket truck and / or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.
Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.
Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
