Class B Lineman - Overhead
The Class B Lineman - Overhead is a semi-skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Essential functions include : working safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work; stringing overhead wire; setting poles and anchors; installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear; troubleshooting in primary and secondary systems; replacing fuses in transformers and clearing faulted circuits and systems; frequently working with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others; maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order; performing rigorous physical labor; identifying primary and secondary voltage on a circuit; being familiar with induced voltage; understanding grounding procedures; using a load buster tool; installing and hooking up a single phase transformer; safely setting a pole; understanding equipment set up and grounding; working at heights and / or confined spaces; properly installing and removing PPE and cover up; checking voltage on transformers; tying in a primary conductor; climbing different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possessing the necessary tools to do so; phasing out a line using phasing sticks; obtaining a one shot on a recloser; conducting a pre-job or tailgate briefing; safely performing a reconductoring job; gloving / working live high voltage distribution power lines; installing and removing mechanical jumpers; and working outside, frequently in inclement weather.
Pending requirements include : 5-year minimum of recent field experience; reading and communicating effectively in English; obtaining a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days of employment; a Commercial Driver's License is preferred; traveling long distances on short notice, when required; working for extended periods in various locations, when required; lifting in excess of 50 lbs; inspecting rubber goods and PPE; working overtime when requested; and working outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms. Work environment includes exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites, loud noise levels, and outside weather conditions.
