Store Manager in Training – IPP Independent Pet Partners

IP

  • independent pet partners seeks a dedicated Store Manager in Training to inspire, lead, and motivate a team of pet-loving professionals. As part of our mission to provide exceptional care and service to pets and pet parents, you will help create a kind, empathetic environment, achieve positive business results, and employ effective processes.

Job Overview

Full‑time position located in the Greater Chicago Area. Compensation ranges from $21.00 to $24.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and develop at least two store team members.
  • Create and maintain store staff schedules.
  • Coach and lead team members to provide exceptional guest experiences and achieve sales goals.
  • Exercise discretionary authority, prepare reports, and hold self and team accountable for performance measures and execution of organizational initiatives.
  • Foster an environment of kindness and empathy toward pets and pet parents.
  • Consistently communicate the company’s commitment to holistic pet wellness.
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience.
  • Manage overall store operations.
  • Share product knowledge and suggestions to fit customer needs and promote pet health.
  • Perform front‑end duties such as operating the cash register, bagging, replenishing merchandise, and preparing displays.
  • Oversee all aspects of inventory, including merchandise replenishment, inventory management, adjustments, weekly cycle counts, store transfers, RTVs, and shipment processing.
  • Organize special store events and promotions in the store.
  • Complete any other assignments delegated by the Retail Management Team.

    • Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Passion for extraordinary customer service and the well‑being of pets.
  • Minimum two years of professional retail sales experience.
  • Minimum one year of professional managerial experience.
  • Budget and P&L management experience preferred.
  • Willingness to be educated about the products and services offered.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet sales targets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend shifts.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

    • Physical Demands

  • Position requires working both indoors and outdoors (to assist with customer carry‑outs).
  • Must be able to stand eight hours per day with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be comfortable working with a wide variety of animals, including small and large dogs.
  • Must be able to work around pet hair and dander.

    • Salary : $21.00–$24.00 per hour, DOE / DOQ
