Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Healthcare Coordinator at Evangelhouse is responsible for managing the health and wellness needs of students. She reports to the Residential Manager. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality behavioral healthcare services, maintains compliance with Louisiana health regulations, and supports the overall well-being of students in a residential setting. The LPN Healthcare Coordinator also serves as a residential mentor, guiding students in daily routines and behavioral development. The role involves collaboration with school staff, medical professionals, and external partners to provide comprehensive care tailored to students' physical and mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities
I. Healthcare Coordination Duties
- Conduct General Health Assessments : Perform initial standardized health assessments for students upon enrollment to evaluate their physical and mental health status, identifying any immediate medical or psychiatric needs.
- Manage Student Vaccination Records : Maintain accurate and up-to-date vaccination records for all students, ensuring compliance with Louisiana Department of Health requirements and state immunization laws.
- Manage Reporting Systems : Oversee reporting systems for Louisiana Department of Health and accreditation requirements, ensuring timely and accurate submission of data and documentation to meet state and federal standards.
- Organize and Maintain Medications : Manage the inventory, storage, and distribution of over-the-counter medications and student prescription medications ensuring availability and adherence to medication management regulations. This includes proper medication disposal management.
- Assist with Policy Development : Collaborate with the residential manager to develop and implement health-related policies and procedures that align with school standards and Louisiana health regulations.
- Maintain and Inventory Prescribed Medications : Oversee the secure storage, inventory, and documentation of prescribed medications, ensuring compliance with Louisiana Board of Nursing and pharmacy regulations.
- Maintain Electronic Medication Administration Record (EMAR) : Manage the EMAR system to support and monitor student self-administration of medications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with medication administration and disposal guidelines.
- Maintain Paper Records : Manage the paper MAR system to support and monitor other medication needs.
- Coordinate with Psychiatrist : Attend psychiatrist appointments with students to facilitate psychiatric care, including medication management, doctor prescribed treatment plans, and follow-up care for students with mental health needs.
- Coordinate with Pharmacy : Liaise with the pharmacy to ensure timely ordering, delivery, and refilling of student medications, maintaining accurate records and resolving any issues in accordance with Louisiana pharmacy regulations.
- Assess and Schedule Medical and Dental Appointments : Evaluate students’ medical and dental needs, schedule appointments with Louisiana-based providers, and coordinate transportation or follow-up care as needed.
II. Residential Mentor Duties
Dormitory Oversight : Maintain the established schedule, supervise daily routines (e.g., light cleaning, basic cooking), and ensure a structured, encouraging atmosphere.Student Development : Demonstrate motivation, desire, and natural gifting to work with adolescents. Teach practical life skills, facilitate teachable moments, and support students in making choices that promote a positive peer culture.Behavioral Guidance : Model healthy behavior choices, monitor and document student behavior, and address medical or emotional needs per program protocols.Family Coordination : Communicate with families as outlined by the program, maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.Activity Leadership : Lead group activities, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict resolution among students.III. Qualifications
Education : Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program recognized by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners.Experience : Minimum of 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience, preferably in a pediatric, adolescent, or mental health setting. Experience in a school or residential care environment is a plus.Skills :Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and medication management.Proficiency in conducting general health assessments for adolescents.Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.Familiarity with Louisiana Department of Health regulations, Joint Commission accreditation standards, and state-specific health codes.Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems, including EMAR platforms.Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with students, staff, psychiatrists, and external healthcare providers.Natural ability to engage and motivate adolescents, with strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive peer culture.Ability to assess and prioritize medical and behavioral needs in a dynamic environment.Certifications : Active LPN license in Louisiana. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Mental Health First Aid or similar certifications are a plus.Licenses : Valid LPN license issued by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners.IV. Work Environment
Setting : Residential therapeutic boarding school within a Christian setting. Work is conducted in the health office, residential areas, or during group activities. Some travel may be required to accompany students to medical or dental appointments.Schedule : Full-time, with potential for evening, weekend, or on-call hours to address urgent health or behavioral needs.Physical Demands : Light physical activity, including standing, walking, and occasional lifting of medical supplies or assisting with student activities.
