What Your Job Will Be Like
The Director of Center 7500, Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Excellence, oversees the work of one of the most exciting Centers in the Laboratory. The Center is responsible for the entire product lifecycle (research, development, qualification, production, and surveillance) for Neutron Generators. We also have design and / or production responsibility for Switchtubes, Neutron Generator Monitors, and Surety products that address an urgent national need. In February 2025 we adopted the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation (CAMINO), a program that is creating advanced manufacturing competencies and applying them to accelerate product realization. The CAMINO program serves all missions at Sandia and multiplies value by partnering with universities, industry, and all agencies in the Nuclear Security Enterprise. Underpinning all our work, and supporting multiple Centers at the labs, our enterprise integration Group specializes in equipment, analytical sciences, and information systems supporting production.
Our Center accomplishes the production portion of its mission using a combination of internal production and engineering oversight of external suppliers. As a result, we have a particularly large set of customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders, with whom we engage to deliver all aspects of our mission scope. Our Center works closely with mission enabling teams around Sandia. As a result, the Director must spend time developing and sustaining relationships with our facilities, financial, information technology, safety, and security partners.
We are committed to on-time and on-budget delivery to our customers, employing Lean culture and other formal methods of continuous improvement. The Center is considered by many to be an exemplar of formal continuous improvement practice within the Laboratory. In addition, the Center prides itself on having a family atmosphere that makes it a desirable place to work. The next Director will have the opportunity to build on these strengths, to make the Center an even more effective organization than it has been in the past.

Security Clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment / education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
