Head Start Director : freeport, IL
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Head Start / Early Head Start Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight of all program operations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while fostering continuous improvement, strong community partnerships, and high-quality outcomes for children and families.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & Governance
- Serve as the designated Head Start / Early Head Start Director as defined by federal grant requirements
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, Governing Board, and Policy Council to establish strategic direction and program priorities
- Provide training and support to governing bodies on their roles and responsibilities
Program Operations & Oversight
Direct all program components including education, health, nutrition, mental health, disabilities, and family engagementMonitor operations for quality assurance and regulatory complianceLead program evaluation, self-assessment, and continuous improvement initiativesFiscal Management
Oversee program budget in collaboration with fiscal staffEnsure adherence to budget planning, reporting, cost allocation, and in-kind contribution requirementsMaintain compliance with federally mandated administrative cost thresholdsHuman Resources & Supervision
Recruit, supervise, and develop staff while ensuring compliance with personnel policies and federal standardsProvide leadership and professional development opportunities to coordinators and managersCompliance & Reporting
Prepare grant applications, annual reports, and required documentationEnsure compliance with the Head Start Act, Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), and licensing requirementsLead preparation for federal and state monitoring and reviewsCommunity Partnerships & Communication
Build and maintain partnerships with schools, agencies, and organizationsPromote parent and community engagement through outreach and collaborative activitiesServe as program representative at community meetings, conferences, and policy discussionsSkills & Experience :
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Public Administration, Human Services, Social Work, or related field, REQUIRED ; Master’s degree in a related field, preferredExperience : 5+ years of progressive management in early childhood education, Head Start / Early Head Start, or human servicesKnowledge : Federal & state regulations, Head Start standards, & child development best practices, REQUIREDSoftware : Proficiency with Microsoft Office & data management systems, requiredCommunication : Bilingual (English / Spanish), preferredRequirements : MUST pass a criminal background check & health screenings (including a TB test & CPR Certification) & have reliable transportation (valid driver’s license and auto insurance)What W e Offer :
