The Lead will be a resource for Machinists in the work group and support the shop Manager as his back-up when absent.
- Supervise manufacturing operations and ensure satisfaction of customer requirements and specifications.
- Train / assist and monitor Machinist activities on the shop floor.
- Work with Shop Manager to plan production and shop schedules. Ensure that production schedules are maintained.
- Verify employees are maintaining time sheets correctly
- Assist in the training and evaluation of machine operators.
- Work with the Shop Manager on the development of manufacturing processes.
- Monitor the completion of all required paperwork including identification and traceability.
- Supervise / perform / review inspection and testing to ensure specification compliance.
- Monitor tooling / fixturing supply levels.
- Monitoring material handling throughout manufacturing processes.
- Ensure that required machinery / equipment maintenance is scheduled and completed.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances and have significant knowledge of mathematics and precision measurement instruments.
- Makes setup decision relative to part, product and material being used.
- Measure and examine completed products to ensure they meet drawing and customer requirements.
- Make adjustments and setup changes of a minor to complex nature on machine tools and machining equipment.
- Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments and materials onto machines.
- Make complex tooling and equipment selections that will improve quality or reduce machining time.
- Evaluate machining process and make suggestions for improvements that will positively impact operations.
- Monitor the overall performance of machines during the machining process and make necessary adjustments to ensure effective machine performance.
- Use judgment, training and experience to solve complex machining problems.
- Candidate will have significant knowledge of CNC programming and have the ability to make program edits that are complex in nature.
- Evaluate the machining process to ensure that the area is clear of all potential hazards.
- Ensure Machinists are using proper PPE prior to beginning the machining process.
- Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization both oral and written
- Answer CARS as required
- Other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent and trade school diploma in Machining / Machining Science
- Degree in a relative discipline a plus.
- Must have 7-10 years machine shop experience
- Painting Experience a Plus
- Must have experience setting up complex parts
- Reading comprehension, knowledge of mathematics and use of active listening skills
- Ability to produce and edit CNC programs
- Ability to employ critical thinking, logic and reasoning to troubleshoot and solve problems
- Instruct others as well as actively continuing their own learning
- 5-Axis experience a plus
- Using computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to cut and shape precision products and parts. CNC machines include, but not limited to, machining tools such as lathes, milling machines, turret punch, brakes, and electrical discharge machines (EDM)
- Applying knowledge of the working properties of metals to design and carry out the operations needed to make machined products that meet precise specifications.

- Good hand eye coordination required along with continuous forward, up, down, and sideways bending motion of head and neck
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to work in hot and cold environments as required
