Senior Claims Specialist

The senior claim specialist models a partner-positive and advocacy-based approach to Workers Compensation. As a senior claims specialist, you will

  • Lead early return to work interactive dialogues and initiate temporary modified duty assignments for injured partners.
  • Administer a multi-state portfolio of claims and instruct third party vendors to assure Starbucks workers compensation program delivers :
  • Prompt appropriate medical treatment
  • Timely wage loss payments and other obligatory financial benefits
  • Opportunities for early return to work
  • Comprehensive claim investigation
  • Effective litigation management
  • Adherence to state jurisdictional regulations
  • Appropriate use of special risk mitigation tools (i.e. Sub Rosa, MSA, etc.)

Consult with and support internal stakeholders, external business units and third-party vendors with subject matter expertise on workers compensation, return to work, leave of absence, litigation management and regulatory compliance.

We'd love to hear from people with :

  • 5 years of claim adjusting or work experience with third party administrators, insurance companies or risk management department.
  • Excellent communication skills. Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Basic competency with Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Excel.
  • Aptitude to negotiate and work effectively with customers, partners, and vendors.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.

  • If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
  • The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge / skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
