Physician Assistant Job Details

Position Type : Locum tenens (contract / travel) – Physician Assistant, Critical Care

Healthcare Setting : Inpatient hospital – Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU)

Location : San Francisco, CA 94158 (Mission Bay)

Start Date : October 6, 2025

End Date : April 6, 2026 (6-month contract, option to extend)

Shifts : Variable 12-hour shifts (07 : 00 – 19 : 00), including days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Hours per Week : 36

Minimum Shifts per Month : 4 (12-hour shifts)

Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $5040 - $5400

Hourly Pay Rate : $235 / hr

Patient Population : Pediatric, neonatal, and select adult congenital cases

Hospital Bed Size : 18-bed PCICU

EMR : Epic

Physician Assistant Qualifications

Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies or equivalent (required)

Active Physician Assistant license (California PA license preferred; open to candidates eligible for CA licensure)

DEA license with California Schedule 2 authority

BLS and PALS certifications (AHA required)

Minimum 1 year of experience in PCICU, pediatric cardiovascular critical care, or similar critical care jobs

Experience with ECMO, CRRT, and heart failure patient management preferred

Strong communication skills; collaborative team player; flexibility for nights and weekends

COVID-19 vaccination and booster (medical / religious exemptions considered)

Physician Assistant Responsibilities

Deliver direct patient care in the PCICU for neonates, pediatric, and adult congenital patients

Participate in multidisciplinary rounds; collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, fellows, and nursing staff

Perform and assist with procedures (IVs, arterial lines, intubations, central lines) as appropriate

Manage pre- and post-operative patients, including those with cardiac catheterizations, ECMO, and transplant cases

Document care and orders in Epic EMR

Provide 50% night or weekend coverage as needed; participate in call rotation if required

Uphold high standards of patient safety and quality care in a critical care setting
