Physician Assistant Job Details
Location : San Francisco, CA 94158 (California healthcare jobs)
Setting : Inpatient Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU)
Employment Type : Locum Tenens Physician Assistant (Travel Contract)
Contract Length : 4 months, with option to extend
Start Date : February 2, 2026
End Date : May 25, 2026
Shifts : Variable 12-hour shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays)
Hours per Week : 36
Minimum Coverage : 4 x 12-hour shifts per month
Estimated Weekly Pay : $5,040 – $5,400
Patient Population : Pediatric, neonatal, and adult congenital heart patients
Hospital Bed Size : 18
EMR : Epic
Physician Assistant Qualifications
Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent
Active Physician Assistant license (California PA license preferred; open to out-of-state candidates)
DEA license (CA, Schedule 2 required)
BLS and PALS certifications (AHA required)
Minimum 1 year of experience in a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) or pediatric cardiovascular critical care setting
Experience with ECMO, CRRT, and cardiac support devices preferred
COVID-19 vaccine and booster required (medical / religious exemptions considered)
Strong clinical communication and teamwork skills
Physician Assistant Responsibilities
Deliver advanced patient care to pediatric and neonatal patients in the PCICU, including pre- and post-operative management
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, and fellows
Assist with and perform clinical procedures such as IVs, arterial lines, intubation, and central lines (most procedures performed by fellows / attendings)
Manage complex cases including heart failure, cardiac catheterization, ECMO, and transplant patients
Document all care activities in Epic EMR
Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by the healthcare team
Promote a collaborative, patient-centered, and positive healthcare environment
