Parks Maintenance Worker

The starting salary for this position depends on qualifications and is as follows : Parks Maintenance Worker I- $20.21 - $23.24 Parks Maintenance Worker II- $21.22 - $24.40 Parks Maintenance Worker III- $22.28 - $25.63 Semi-skilled and manual work in maintaining various grounds, fields, and facilities. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City. Works varied hours including weekends and holidays.

Essential Duties

Parks Maintenance Worker I- Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives; maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations. Maintains equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work. Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by performing mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging, and other manual labor tasks. Prepares fields, grounds, and courts for athletic activities. Performs tasks of painting, irrigation maintenance, and spraying. Performs sodding, seeding, trimming, edging, mulching, and similar work in parks and other City grounds. Performs litter control functions, cleans restrooms. Sets up picnics and other areas. Operates vehicles and equipment and performs preventative maintenance functions on the vehicles and equipment. Makes daily written and oral reports. Informs and directs the public in the use of facilities. Other duties as may be assigned.

Responsible for educating the public about park rules and regulations. Maintains equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work. Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by performing mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging, and other manual labor tasks on Fine Turf (golf course and sports facilities). Prepares fields, grounds, and courts for athletic activities. Performs tasks of painting, turf drainage system installations, irrigation maintenance, and spraying. Performs sodding, seeding, trimming, edging, mulching, verticutting, aerifying, topdressing, fertilizing, and similar work in parks and other City grounds. Performs litter control functions; cleans restrooms; sets up picnic and other areas. Must be able to operate vehicles with trailers to load / unload large turf equipment. Performs preventative maintenance functions on the vehicles, tractors, and power equipment. Makes daily written and oral reports. Informs and directs the public in the use of facilities. Other duties as may be assigned.

Parks Maintenance Worker III- Operates single and tandem-axle dump trucks, water trucks, and loaders on assigned projects and rework tasks. Maintains equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work. Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging, and performing other manual labor tasks on Fine Turf (golf course and sports facilities). Prepares fields, grounds, and courts for athletic activities. Performs tasks of painting, turf drainage system installations, irrigation maintenance, and spraying. Performs sodding, seeding, trimming, edging, mulching, verticutting, aerifying, topdressing, fertilizing, and similar work in parks and other City grounds. Performs litter control functions; cleans restrooms; sets up picnic and other areas. Must be able to operate vehicles with trailers to load / unload large turf equipment. Performs preventative maintenance functions on vehicles, tractors, and power equipment. Makes daily written and oral reports. Informs and directs the public on the use of facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE

Parks Maintenance Worker I- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. Two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience is required. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Parks Maintenance Worker II- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. One (1) year as a Maintenance Worker I for a municipal or county Parks & Recreation Department is required. Three (3) years of grounds maintenance experience is required. One (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of moderately heavy trucks or similar equipment is required. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Parks Maintenance Worker III- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. Two (2) years as a Maintenance Worker II for a municipal or county Parks & Recreation Department. Four (4) years of grounds maintenance experience required. One (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of moderately heavy trucks or similar equipment is required. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Parks Maintenance Worker I- Possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a clean driving record are required, with the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days from the date of hire.

Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.

Parks Maintenance Worker II- Possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a clean driving record required, with the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days from date if hire.

CDL Class B driver's license required.

Ability to obtain a Certification in Green Industry Best Management Practices (BMPs) for the state of Florida within nine (9) Months from the date of hire.

Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.

Parks Maintenance Worker III- Possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a clean driving record required, with the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days from date if hire.

Possession of a valid CDL Class A driver's license and maintenance of a clean driving record are required.

Limited Lawn and Ornamental Certification is required.

Certification in Green Industry Best Management Practices (BMPs) for the state of Florida is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
