Salary Range : $65,000 - $73,000

Position Overview :

The Assistant Director of Co-Curricular & Leadership Development supports the design, coordination, and implementation of transitional and leadership experiences that enhance student success from entry through graduation. This position plays a vital role in guiding students through key moments of their collegiate journey, with a focus on the orientation and welcome experience, transfer student transition, and the integration of co-curricular and leadership development opportunities. The Assistant Director directly coordinates programming for transfer students, oversees Welcome Week initiatives, and manages components of the co-curricular record. In addition, this role serves as the primary advisor for the Senior Class Council, supporting its leadership, traditions, and signature programs.

The Assistant Director collaborates with colleagues across the division to ensure that transitional experiences are engaging, inclusive, and developmental, while also fostering opportunities for upper-class students to apply their learning, lead within the community, and prepare for life as alumni.

Responsibilities :

Vision : Provide leadership under the Director to design and implement, student staff selection and training that implements co-curricular, leadership, and transitional programs / events for upper class students.

Researches competitor and state of the art developments to enhance, improve, and innovate, student leader training curricula and delivery to better meet goals & objectives.

Transitions for Upperclass Students : Support building successful transition experience for students that are developmentally appropriate to ensure scaffolded learning opportunities throughout the undergraduate experience, with a specific focus on transition out of TCNJ. Focus on events & programs supporting upperclass students focuses on transition & engagement. Create transition learning experiences for graduating students to help ensure alumni success and continued connection to the College. Leads transitions of transfer student experience from Orientations to Welcome Week events / needs.

Co-Curricular : Develops and supports co-curricular student programming that aligns with larger College goals and efforts. Implements 1st year and upperclass leadership development programs. Partners with TCNJ faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni, as well as Career Center and employers to further the students co-curricular experience, leadership development, and commitment to life long learners. Supports the implementation of PAW Print, the co-curricular record, by creating and implementing regular trainings for key campus partners, as well as marketing and on-boarding students to using the record.

Program Planning and Implementation. Supports program planning for Welcome Week, Orientation, Leadership conferences, Blue and Gold Award, and leadership peer educators. They will so support National Student Transfer Week, Exit Strategy and transitional programming This position will also help with the advisement of class councils. Leading Parent & Family initiatives through regular communication, planning & implementing Parent / Family portion of Homecoming weekend, and leading the Parent Counsel.

Leadership Development : Play a central role in shaping the leadership journey of TCNJ students by providing direct programmatic support for signature initiatives such as TCNJ Votes, LeaderShape and other leadership programs. Offer individualized leadership coaching and group development opportunities that empower students to discover their strengths, build confidence, and practice inclusive leadership skills. Support the design and facilitation of training for Orientation Leaders, Lead Peer Educators, Senior Class Council, and other student leaders, ensuring they are equipped to lead with purpose, resilience, and a commitment to community. Through intentional mentorship and skill-building, foster the growth of student leaders who will positively impact both TCNJ and the communities they serve. Supervision of student employee(s).

Assessment / Marketing : Create high-quality programs publications, brochures and materials for all transition learning experiences offered. Reviews and analyzes outcome measurements and recommends changes and enhancements to improve programs / projects. Collaborates with internal and external partners to implement changes designed to improve program goals and objectives.\\

ROTC / Scholarships : Markets scholarship opportunities to students. Implements a review process, recruits and trains volunteers to review scholarships.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications : Required :

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in a college or university setting (2 years of graduate assistantship experience can equal 1 year of professional experience).
  • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in new student orientation programs and transition programs for college students.
  • Strong ability to pay attention to detail and implement event and program logistics.
  • Customer Service : Commitment to delivering superior customer service and working with a variety of clients, including students, parents, and family members. Ability to collaborate with multiple campus partners and also outside vendors.
