Core Competencies
Provides direct collaborative clinical care (individual psychotherapy, supportive therapy, family / marital and / or
group therapy) to patients to promote change according to patient’s treatment plan.
Provides quality service to patients, including clinical care and documentation. Adheres to agency’s code of ethics, standards, policies and procedures as well as the state mental health code. Provides direct service in
accordance with department’s productivity and other performance standards.
Provides independent patient / family assessments and treatment as needed and collaborates with the outpatient
multidisciplinary team as clinically determined. Forms therapeutic relationship with patient integrating theoretical knowledge effectively and ethically in treatment.
Assesses and evaluates outpatients. Evaluation will include psychosocial evaluation, level of clinical care
required, mental status exam, diagnostic formulation and initial treatment plan.
Provides program development and evaluation in specified area. Develops and recommends changes to
improve service delivery as needed. Implement changes and new programming to meet both clinical and fiscal standards as determined by the clinical and administrative program director.
Coordinates and communicates with other providers and service components to assure continuity of care and
the provisions of comprehensive services.
Provides clinical care or referral to patients’ families to enhance adaptive functioning as needed, including
family therapy and supportive family contacts using knowledge of systems theory, family dynamics and pathology.
Assists in receiving authorization from managed care / insurance companies.
Makes skilled judgement regarding clinical risk assessments in an outpatient setting.
Diagnoses and treats psycho-physiological disorders in an outpatient setting.
Familiar with theory and psychodynamic and behavioral interventions with medically related physiological
disorders.
Advances knowledge, skill, and professional development through participation in clinical supervision and / or peer consultation groups, offered on site, a minimum of twice / month for first year of employment.
