Aerospace & Defense startup based in El Segundo, formed by former SpaceX, Anduril, and Lockheed engineers, applying the SpaceX model to mass produce life-saving systems. Backed by joint staff level military leadership and several major SV firms, their first product is designed for immediate deployment around the world. This is a full-time role with a significant equity opportunity in a fast-growing stealth startup.

Location : Hawthorne, CA.

Role focus : Solid rocket motor development from concept through flight qualification; hands-on engineering with emphasis on propulsion systems, manufacturing, testing, and qualification efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer will be responsible for propellant development and characterization, rocket motor hardware and ground testing hardware development and ownership, propellant manufacturing process, quality and reliability assurance, and frequent static fire testing.
  • Own large business outcomes and drive personal and professional growth.
  • Partner with engineering and production teams to generate ideas, designs, and improvements.
  • Lead propulsion system development, analysis and test projects.
  • Perform analysis on designs including hand calculations, CAD, and FEA.
  • Travel to the testing range on testing days.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience with solid propulsion rocket motor design.
  • Experience with propellant mixing and oversight of the mixing process for engineers reporting directly to them.
  • High proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or NX).
  • Strong ability to design for manufacturing.
  • Preferred Skills

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Strong background in chemical engineering and manufacturing.
  • Strong background in solid rocket propulsion development.
  • Strong background in rocket and missile design and development.
