FOUR-DAY, 36-HOUR WORKWEEK!
DEFINITION OF WORK :
This is a safety sensitive position exercising a high degree of discretion, trust and confidence performing repairs and maintenance on the County fleet of equipment. Responsibilities include participation in field activities when necessary, performance of a variety of tasks such as scheduling, ordering parts and performing safety inspections. This position requires a high level of problem solving ability as well as initiative, ability and willingness to work a majority of the time without direct supervision. Persons in this position use independent discretion and judgment within established organization policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Performs routine and complex maintenance and repair on vehicles and equipment, body repair and painting
Inspects defective and malfunctioning equipment and performs diagnostic tests using engine and charging system analyzers, pressure gauges and other equipment
Tests hydraulic repairs on pumps, motors, hoses and valves
Dismantles and overhauls internal combustion engines, pumps, auxiliary equipment, generators, compressors, clutches and transmissions
Performs service calls in the field
Performs electric and acetylene welding and fabrication
Diagnose and repairs electrical system
May recommend repair by a primary repair facility when necessary
Reports for off duty work for emergency operations for Public Health, Safety and Welfare
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS
Education : High school diploma or equivalent
Certification : ASE-Certified Mechanic
Experience : Four years of auto / diesel mechanical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants with less experience may be considered for the Apprentice Mechanic position.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating / maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Understanding of computer-controlled engine systems
Must pass a criminal background check and acceptable review of motor vehicle record
Valid State of Colorado Class A or driver’s license with air brake, manual, and tanker endorsement is preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of employment;
Must obtain and maintain ASE Certifications as required
This is a safety-sensitive position that may be subject to random drug testing
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Work Environment : Work is generally scheduled Monday through Thursday and involves on-call duty which requires working some weekends and holidays. Travel by vehicle is required to reach work sites. The incumbent is exposed to the following environmental factors : year-round outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in or near moving traffic, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
