Job description

ATC West Healthcare is seeking a Locum Physician Assistant to provide locum coverage at a facility in Oregon's South Coast. The Locum Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive orthopedic surgical and clinical care in collaboration with attending physicians. This role involves pre- and post-operative management, surgical assisting, and coverage for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency orthopedic services. The PA will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while supporting the hospital s orthopedic surgery team.

Dates / Schedule

Start Date : ASAP / ASAC

Credentialing Timeframe : Minimum 60 days

Work Week : Sunday Saturday (OT after 40 hours)

Call Coverage : Includes weekday, weekend, night, and holiday rotation (24-hour call as needed)

EPIC Training : 4 hours unpaid (testing out option 2 hours)

Job Details / Responsibilities

Collaborate with attending orthopedic surgeons to assess, diagnose, and manage patient care plans.

Record patient history, conduct physical exams, and document findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Order and interpret diagnostic studies (e.g., EMG, ECG, compartment pressure, X-ray, CT, MRI, bone scans).

Perform minor surgical and therapeutic procedures such as :

Digital blocks, regional anesthesia, wound repair, debridement, incision and drainage

Joint aspirations, injections (joint, tendon, bursa, trigger point), fracture / dislocation reduction

Casting, bracing, splinting, and hardware removal

Assist in surgeries, including first assist, tissue closures, and application of appliances.

Conduct hospital rounds, write orders, and manage inpatient orthopedic cases.

Serve as the primary orthopedic call provider for emergency and inpatient units as scheduled.

Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, quality initiatives, and respond to documentation / coding queries.

Dictate discharge summaries, histories, and physicals for orthopedic inpatients.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Board Certified Physician Assistant Required

Active Oregon License Required

Full-Time Availability Required

Eligible for Medical Staff or Allied Health Professional membership and privileges

NPDB Self-Query Required at time of submission

CAQH login and password Required at time of offer

Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR / EPIC) for documentation and care management

Strong ability to work independently and under pressure , including in emergent situations

Excellent communication and clinical judgment skills
