West Michigan Aviation Academy is hiring a full time English Learning Coordinator.

West Michigan Aviation Academy is a regional, tuition-free public charter high school, founded in 2010 to provide a rigorous educational program, through an aviation focus. Students are drawn to WMAA for its aviation, engineering, and STEM programs, along with the smaller size and dedicated staff. Many WMAA students come from great distances, some driving up to one hour each way. WMAA opened in 2010 with 80 ninth grade students and has grown to a four-year high school with enrollment of 600 in the fall of 2018.

ESSENTIVE

Identify and provide holistic support to English Learners

Assist with schoolwide communications and programs for English Learners, including :

Coordinate translators or interpreters on an as-needed basis

Utilize tools, such as Talking Points, to ensure school communications are available in languages accessible to students and parents

Collaborate with school staff and community organizations to meet the individual needs of students

Provide direct oversight over English Learner (EL) support room

Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff

Provide appropriate accommodations to English learners on assessments and coursework

Collaborate with students 1 : 1 to review & monitor progress on English Learner Plans (ELPs)

Assist certified teaching staff in implementing evidence-based strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills

Coordinate assessments for English Learners, including WIDA and WIDA screener assessments

Assist with Title III, Title 1, and Section 41a funded programs and materials

REQUIREMENTS & C ERTIFICATION

Satisfactory criminal background check

Michigan Teacher Certification, ESL or NS Endorsement
