SUMMARY : Provide health care for individuals in the primary care clinic with training and in accordance with the general policies and standards of practice, as established by the clinic. Delivers care appropriately for a multicultural patient population. Elicits detailed patient histories and conducts complete physician examinations. Reaches diagnosis and orders appropriate laboratory tests and referrals, counsels patients and families on health and disease.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide all physician care generally provided at a primary care facility.
- Actively manage all aspects of patient care while on shift.
- Supervise and direct the center’s other clinical staff if applicable.
- Collect biological specimens and process them in the laboratory for testing.
- Ensure all charts and medical records are accurately completed in a timely manner and adhere to all clinical policies and procedures.
- Arrange referrals for specialties not provided at the primary care clinic.
- Evaluate patients to determine medical condition, establish diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Maintain a high standard of medical practice and participate in training and development of the medical team.
- Assist in medical education of patients and clinic staff.
- Facilitate patient transition within and between health care settings; refer and transfer patients for follow‑up or specialty care and discharge patients.
- Exemplify respectful and professional attitude toward patients and staff, upholding dignity, privacy and modesty.
- Participate in development of clinic protocols and formulary; make recommendations on chart forms.
- Document each office procedure, prescription, consultation and patient contact within 24 hours.
- Counsel patients regarding medical and other problems affecting health and well‑being.
- Perform clinical procedures within scope and skill of practitioner, ensuring economic feasibility.
- Provide direction and leadership to clinic’s medical support staff regarding patient care administration.
- Supervise nurse practitioner / physician assistant assignments, including chart sign‑off where applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of Family Medicine.
Required Credentials
Doctoral Degree (MD, DO).Florida Physician License.Three years of Family Medicine experience.Graduation from an ACGME Family Medicine Residency Program.Board certification in Family Medicine.Current active state and federal DEA license.Current CPR certification.The University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.
