GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOBThe Manager, Purchasing (Lab) is responsible for managing and directing the daily operations of the purchasing and supplies departments. The Manager will lead these teams in all phases of procurement and inventory control. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting order processing; inventory control; managing departmental budgets; ensuring DaVita Labs quality and purchasing policies are not compromised; negotiating and tracking service contacts with vendors and the legal department to ensure contracts do not expire and all proper documentation is complete. Manage the supply related support to both internal and external customers in order to meet financial results. This position reports to the Director, Materials Management.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESCreate reports and analyze data; forecast procurement needs and continually develop expertise to support growth for new projects of DaVita LabsMaintain procurement files, VRS and MSDS / SDS recordsResolve vendor or contractor grievances / claims against / fromsuppliersResponsible for internal communications with the Director of Materials Management and Senior LeadershipManage vendor relationships and assist in building effective and collaborative partnershipsMaintain and regulate vendor rating systemAs needed, will assist in the auditing and vetting of vendorsAdminister, review and approve on-line purchase requisitionsPrepare presentations related to key performance metrics, program updates and vendor managementDemonstrate proactive problem solving and ability to make decisionsNegotiate contracts for materials, services and equipment based on cost objectives and input from internal customers and when needed generate / manage RFQ / RFP packages for the supplier bid processLocate vendors of materials, equipment or supplies required, review, evaluate, approve specifications and determine product availability to ensure compliance with the needs of DaVita LabsPrioritize assignmentsDirect and develop teammates for a dynamic and flexible environmentAbility to work effectively across multi functions within the organization along with external critical vendorsArrange for disposal of surplus materials, supplies and equipment per DaVita Labs policiesProvide leadership to direct reports : Coaching, counseling, disciplining, planning, monitoring and appraising job results through continuous metric outcomes o Identify and develop training opportunities. Help direct reports overcome any organizational obstacles encountered. Know, understand, implement, follow, and communicate to teammates DaVita employment policies and procedures, awards, and other opportunities within company and foster a positive work environment. Facilitate teammate development (PDRs, coaching, mentoring, DaVita training, outside training); collaborate with direct reports to create professional development goalsMonitor workflow and delegate responsibilities to team members, assists in scheduling personnel and time-keeping functionsPlan, organize and supervise teammates to ensure high quality teammate customer serviceKnow, understand, follow, and implement basic wage and hour laws, federal, state and local laws and regulations, Medicare, OHSA, and legislation affecting employmentMaintain familiarity with and communicate to teammates DaVita programs impacting teammates including but not limited to Triple CrownMust support the DaVita culture and values in all work activitiesPerform routine business evaluations : Examine purchasing and inventory levels to maintain healthy supply.Develop regular reporting that provides insight, identifies opportunities, and delivers solutions.Evaluate business for expiring product and mitigate potential write-offs.Arrange for disposal of surplus materials, supplies and equipment per DaVita Labs policies.Proactively address business continuity issues or any inventory / supplier concerns.Keep Sr. Leadership informed on all active business and operational issues.Contribute during supplier negotiations, benchmarking, and price analysis.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMinimum of five years of experience in purchasing or contracting requiredBachelor's degree in related area requiredMust have experience with Microsoft OfficeAbility to develop written standard operating procedures (SOPs)Must have in depth experience with a purchasing practices and MRP functionsMust have experience with developing and managing departmental budgetsMicrosoft SQL and Crystal reporting a plusMust have experience with WMSAbout DaVita LaboratoriesDaVita Labs is a state-of-the-art clinical laboratory delivering timely, accurate lab results focused primarily on kidney care with a relentless commitment to quality.
