The Director, Principal Cloud Domain Architect role in Cloud Services is a specialized technical leadership position, distinct from traditional Principal Engineer roles. Domain Architects act as the technical authority for specific cloud domains across all three major cloud service providers : GCP, Azure, and AWS.

Position Responsibilities :

Own the technical vision for databases, storage, and middleware services across GCP, Azure, and AWS (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Composer, Cloud Storage, Pub / Sub)

Design opinionated architectural patterns that will be implemented as Terraform modules, and guide tech leads and engineers in creating these designs

Co-chair the Domain Special Interest Group (SIG), helping to define the roadmap, prioritize delivery, and disposition feature requests for your domains of expertise

Provide subject matter expertise to application teams during architecture reviews, assisting with pattern selection and solution design

Collaborate across domains with other architects and teams to ensure consistency and seamless integration

You will define how Schwab consumes cloud services at scale-balancing innovation with stability, and empowering hundreds of application teams to build faster and more securely.

SIG balances customer needs with long-term technical strategy

Engineering team delivers features on time and with high quality

App teams leverage domain services with minimal friction

Your expertise is recognized across the organization as authoritative and helpful

This is a technical leadership role requiring deep cloud expertise, product thinking, and a passion for enabling others to succeed.

What you have

Required Qualifications :

8+ years highly technical experience with cloud design in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Demonstrated experience creating detailed architectural designs in either GCP (preferred) or AWS

Experience with Cloud Security products and following secure design principles

Experienced in the development of policy and operational processes to insure high availability and service of entire technology stack, from front-end web traffic to back-end big-data infrastructure

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in cryptocurrency / blockchain platforms and protocols

Demonstrated coding proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, Salt or similar automation tools

Working proficiency with SCM and DevOps tool suites; examples include Git, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Jenkins, Concourse etc.

Experience designing for mission critical, 24x7 systems

Working knowledge of Agile / Scrum, experience adopting or leading continuous integration and continuous delivery concepts and frameworks

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, related degree OR related practical experience

Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect is a plus

Experience in the Financial Services industry is a plus

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
